SPECIAL EDITION: A QUICK FIX FOR PVP

The Review for Gold Gear, Heros, Uniforms and Loot in Playdom’s Marvel Avengers Alliance Game for Facebook and Playdom.com

Playdom has never before alienated more of its customers than with it’s latest PVP Tournament Seasons in the Marvel Avengers Alliance browser game. The problem is that the tournament awards (a good thing) have made players feel more disenfranchised than ever before.

Because less than 1 percent of many millions of players have any kind of chance of getting the good stuff.

Angry players of the Marvel Avengers Alliance don’t need a free lunch; they do need a reasonable opportunity to compete for the tournament awards. Duh!

So here’s the easy fix, Playdumb. You can make a lot more money if you play it the way I’m calling it.

1. Matches

a. Players will not be matched to opponents 8 Agent levels higher than the matched player.

(1) If there are not enough opponents, the game will randomly generate an appropriate same level AI team using the latest gold paid weapon, uniforms and iso-socketed heroes.

b. Players will not fight the same opponent more than three times in a 24 hour period.

c. Players can choose whether or not they want to fight their allies. Just a little button…

2. Rank Points

a. No player will lose or win more than 10 player rank points from a single fight

b. Special rank points (not taken from the player pool of rank points) will be awarded for the following:

(1) 2 Rank Points for finishing a fight with all three heroes standing
(2) 2 Rank Points for finishing a fight within two rounds or less
(3) 2 Rank Points for winning a fight with an opponent ranked 200 points or more above you.
(4) 2 Rank Points for sticking it out in a fight for three rounds if an opponent is ranked 200 points or more above you.
(5) 5 Rank Points (and 5 PVP Points) for maintaining/keeping your league ranking in a 24 hour period

3. Gear

a. Complementary Uniform Schematics sold for Gold

For example:

Power Tactician Uniform Schematics: 42 Gold
Research Time: 96 Hours
Research Cost: 200,000 Silver
Full Speed Up: 120 Gold

All that glitters - A Marvel Avengers Alliance Graphic Novelette

If you’re one of the millions of angry players, send a signal to Disney-Playdom that you want to see solutions to the totally broken PVP in the Marvel Avengers Alliance.

  1. As usual Stan, you provide a really good insight into the game and a possible fix. Even though I managed to rank high enough to get the armor last time, I was extremely frustrated by facing agents as much as 15 levels higher — and because of MY level, that put them over lvl 100, and gave them another page of PvP boosts. Also, to lose 24 and 25 pts in a battle where the AI was defending was a killer; I could build my ranking up over 3 hours of play, only to have it destroyed even while I played by the team defending simultaneously with my also fighting personally. That tended to cause “double losses” because of refreshing, as well, so that I lost the defense AND the attack even if I won…
I have decided to NOT participate in this PvP; despite Cable looking really cool, I just don’t see the rewards as being worth the frustration without a change in the set up of the tournament. The nerf to the quantum accelerator didn’t help either, lol.

      Congrats on your finish.

I finished in the top ten of the DeadPool PVP Tournament Season and I may have a shot at top 100 for the present season, but (just like you) that doesn’t mean I like how things are set up.

Succeeding in a PVP tournament, unfortunately, is not so much about skill and knowledge of the game as it is about sheer hours and some luck. It has been estimated that the average player needs to put in something like 200 hours to “try” to get the good stuff and, if it is true, that is a level of effort that will turn a lot of people off from the game. Perhaps, the hero prize should be extended to the top 10 percent, the uniform to the top 5 percent, and an extra 100 gold to the top 1 percent.

I have mixed feelings about the balances and imbalances Playdom uses to change up the PVP gameplay and keep it interesting. I think the Quantum Jumper nerf is, ultimately, a good thing even though that is a pain in the ass (for both of us) and extends fight times.

  2. at this time the punisher pvp tourney is happenin…right away i noticed the big difference in the dmg that including myself am doing….most hits our one shot kills now. my equipment and such hadnt really changed much since last tourney. anyone else notice the difference? i play on fb by the way

I play the 5 bonus XP battles, and just for the bonus XP. I won’t even bother with the PvP based goals and instead pull those out in practice. It’s an ugly system, more than your even pointing out. The fact that your not actually playing other players alone moots the whole idea from the get, it’s like trying to eat a piece of wax that looks like a chocolate bar instead of a real one. In reality the feature should be called ” Endurance ” or ” Hero Vs Hero “. You’d think at least recorded algorithms of the actually players game play tactics could be involved if anything, considering that’s a pretty common programming feature now days (Hell, it’s being applied to this as I post it even). The only real reason any player is going to go Gung-Ho in PvP is they feel they ” have to ” have that character (like a collectable). And going Gung-Ho is what they will be doing. I was chatting with a few of the 1% in this current PvP (Punisher). The #2 to the very top got tired of dropping every time they left and quit. The majority rage quit. One even switched out their characters and equipment for the lowest they had just so whoever was still playing could walk all over them as a middle finger of sorts to PvP. And those are just players in the top league! Any of that isn’t even the real issue either. What is is that the character is not exclusive nor rare anyways. After a short time in real time, they will be available, permanently, for earn and/or purchase, and most players new and old will have them so they can, yep, try and compete for the top and exclusive character in the next PvP…who will themselves be release for earn and/or purchase…see Day 1, snowflake becomes blizzard, It takes no time nor IQ to quickly release that even the best award in PvP is in fact a waste of time, effort, and money if it’s applied. It’s such a broken part of the game system it’s almost not hard to endorse the possibility that Playdom didn’t initially take it serious in the first place (stating that PvE was likely the focus and meat of the game, and PvP a little afterthought). Oh well though, for myself I play this as a hobby, nothing more, and I really have no doubts it won’t be long before it get’s outmoded by a different online game system as is the case in the gaming world. I’d say overall I get as much out of it as any standard Marvel strategy game (MUA, XML2…except they’re actually more customizable if you mod in reality), and will in the end too.

  4. James Best says:

Pvp is totally broken and heres why. The AI will always proc a passive ability 90% of the time in order to stomp the crap out of you. Prime example, being at full health and thor hitting you twice for 12k each. Or the fact that being new means your screwed so don’t even try. I have had enough. The game has real potiential, but like so many other games, it always falls down to greedy people. And I really want to know how deep some peoples pockets are to spend on this game. I think you should be able to keep your rank when your defending and it should only go up or down when “your:” playing. But PVP is totally broken, people quit and yet nothing changes. Playdom, you people are just greedy little nubs who still have no clue.
