The Desiderata

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant, they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit. Money, they say, can’t buy you happiness.

Because happiness is not something a thing can give to you. Nor can you take happiness from a thing. It cannot be extracted like gold from the earth. Because happiness is not in things. For it is not material. It is feeling, it is knowing, and it is love.

It is feeling that reflects our presence in the world. It is feeling that reflects oneness, harmony and beauty. It is feeling that resounds with what is true and good. And the promises of a thousand kisses, falling stars that you speak wishes to, rainbows…

And the hope that glimmers in a thousand tears. That cries out from a sigh. The ache in the aching. Because what is missed and missing is what is true. Read the rest of this entry »

I never meant to do you wrong. #sorry

July 14, 2011

I can get so caught up in my dreams, inspirations, and the work. Even in destiny. I can get so caught up in that sticky spider web of my aspirations and intentions – so caught up that I lose sight of my nearest duty.

What do I mean by the nearest duty? My friend Thomas Waterhouse of Simple Encouragement describes a nearest duty as a smile or a touch. Or it could also be the act of simply being available to you by listening to you with my full attention.

Are you a princess? And other social media DOHs! Five Minute Therapy

July 13, 2011

What is a princess?

Does a hat make a princess? Because the wedding of Princess Beatrice seemed to be all about the hat.

I’m serious! I quickly typed, What is a princess?, into Google and the search results were all about princess hats. Pages and pages about the teletubby-ish antenna she wore to the wedding.

Ok, I can admit that the “w” didn’t register on the key punch. But I think the universe was trying to tell me something. [grin]

But if not a hat makes a princess, how about diamond encrusted pumps? Carrie of Sex In The City thought so. Manolo Blahnik to be specific!

If tomorrow was your last day. And other social media DOHs. Five Minute Therapy.

July 11, 2011

Do amazing things

Yesterday, Jessica Northey asked an important question on her Facebook wall.

If tomorrow was your last day on Earth, what would you want to do?

It’s an important question because it focuses our heart on the things that matter most to us. It’s a question that asks us who we are, what we hope for, and what must we do in this world?

If tomorrow was your last day on Earth, what would you want to do?
